Swindon.tech is a local tech community for Swindon, in Wiltshire — meetups and talks, somewhere to find collaborators or contract work without a commute to Bristol or London, and somewhere to meet people who do the same job. The site is the front door rather than the thing itself: a single page that makes the case for the town and takes your name and email for the waiting list.

Most people outside Swindon assume there is nothing here, so the page is six sourced facts arguing otherwise. Nationwide runs the world's largest building society from the town. Intel had its European headquarters on Pipers Way for forty years. Brunel's railway works employed twelve thousand people building locomotives. Swindon Makerspace has run a 24/7 workshop since 2012. The talent has always been here; it has never had anywhere to gather.

It is not a product. Nothing is sold or monetised, and it is funded out of FortyTech at a few thousand a year. It is also early: the site is up and taking sign-ups, but no first meetup has been scheduled, and the Discord, X and LinkedIn accounts are marked "coming soon" rather than linked, because they don't exist yet. Whether this works gets measured by who turns up.
